Fort Lauderdale Monthly Songwriter Showcase

Scott Genn, WJSG Internet Radio Original

Every 2nd Monday of the Month, the Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts is taken over by some of South Florida’s best known (and unknown) Singer/Songwriters. The Peck Courtyard is literally crawling with acoustic guitars, mandolins, harmonicas and people of all ages that come out to support and participate in one of the longest running and best liked Open Mic Showcases. It is also one of the most sought-after venues for performers. From the moment the doors are officially opened, local talent line up to sign up for the handful of open spaces available to new talent. Then at 9pm, the Featured Artist portion begins. Some of the best local-and beyond local-talent are hand-picked by Chrystal Hartigan, the promoter of the event, who has been running Songwriters Showcase in one form or another since 1996. With Hartigan’s vast connections in the music business, you never know who you’ll get to see. Last month, “Junior” Marvin, a former Wailer (as in Bob Marley and the…) showed up for the event, and joined some other well-seasoned local pros in an intimate setting.
Tickets are $10 at the door (Cash ONLY), and there is an open bar during the event. For more information on Chrystal Hartigan and Songwriter Showcase, visit , or
