Trent Reznor Speaks About The Return Of Nine Inch Nails

Jonah Bayer/Myspace

Trent Reznor has been busy over the past few years crafting soundtracks for films like The Social Network and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, however hardcore Reznor fans are still holding out for a new Nine Inch Nails album… an it looks like that could be happening soon.

“I’m going to be writing for Nine Inch Nails this year,” Reznor told Billboard.comabout the project which has been on hiatus since 2009. Reznor went to say that he doesn’t “have any particular goal in mind other than… my voice as a songwriter feels like it needs to speak up or at least work out a little bit to not atrophy. I think I have something to say that feels unique to who I am right now, and that’s when it tells me it’s time to do something.”

Nine Inch Nails – “Closer”

When asked if he would consider recording new music under a different name he responded, “at the moment it’s going to live in the Nine Inch Nails column, for a few reasons. I enjoy the challenge of moving that kind of brand forward, that identity, shaping it to who I am now instead of who I was a few years ago when I last left off. It’s all kind of hypothetical right now. When I sit down with a notebook and a little mini-recorder is when my bluff will be called, and then it might not happen at all.”

In addition to possibly seeing a new NIN disc in 2012, Reznor predicts that the debut full-length from How To Destroy Angels — his band which also features musical partner Atticus Ross and Reznor’s wife Mariqueen Maandig – will finally come out in the spring and Reznor added that they may play some live dates as well. So what do you think about hearing some new Nine Inch Nails music this year? Let us know while you get your groove on with NIN Radio.
