Florence & The Machine, Dev Hynes cover Green Day

MICHAEL ROFFMAN/Consequence of Sound

At this year’s Coachella, as part of the Noisey’s live video series, Florence and the Machine and Dev Hynes (of Lightspeed Champion, Blood Orange) took a stab at Green Day’s “Hitchin’ a Ride”. Originally off 1997′s Nimrod, this cover of the Bay Area trio’s punky lounge anthem strips the punk and stresses the lounge. It’s pretty cool seeing Florence Welch scream and, well, Hynes plays bass well. Catch it below.

In other news, Florence and the Machine’s Florence Welch recently sustained a vocal injury and doctors have ordered her not to sing for one week. As she explained on Twitter, “Unfortunately this means i will not be able to perform at Benicassim and Optimus alive festival this weekend..i am so so sorry.. im so sorry to all the fans, i was desperate to still perform, but was told without question not to, so as not to do permanent damage.. hope i can make it up to you in the future.”
