Alex Young/Consequence of Sound
Last night’s episode of The Late Show with David Letterman was supposed to feature a performance by St. Vincent and David Byrne, but Hurricane Sandy had other plans. (Clark and Byrne still plan to appear on The Colbert Report on Thursday night.) So instead, Letterman rang up ol’ Andy Bird.
Supporting his second album of 2012, Hands of Glory, Bird covered Townes Van Zandt’s “If I Needed You” with help from Tift Merritt, Alan Hampton, and no one else. It was pretty incredible sight watching this intimate and fragile performance amidst the backdrop of a city still recovering from a monster storm; be sure to watch the replay below (via The Audio Perv).
