King Kong The Musical

Art Levy/Prefix

A musical adaptation of King Kong is hitting theatres in Melbourne starting June 2013, and it's getting some sizable musical contributions as well. The Avalanches, Justice, and Massive Attack's Robert Del Naja all provide music for the score, which was composed and arranged by Marius de Vries. Here's what The Avalanches had to say on the matter:

Yes, indeed, the musical will star a one-ton King Kong puppet. It will also be really into sample-based music, going by the soundtrack's direction. Per a press release, the score will also feature "modernised musical standards including 'I Wanna Be Loved By You,' 'Brother Can You Spare A Dime,' and 'Get Happy.'" WatchJustice talking about the production, and listen to a half-hour preview of the music here. [P4K]
