According to NME, War Child is among 10 charities on the shortlist for the Google UK Global Impact Challenge. The project hopes to support vulnerable children and reduce sexual violence in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo. War Child intends to give children access to support with free helplines and SMS texting, and looks to use the technology to target responses and maximize their aid.
"Our friends War Child are in need of your voting support," Mumford & Sons said. Blur added, "Help our friends War Child win £1/2 million to protect children from sexual violence. Please vote.".
People can place their vote at Google, and polls close tonight at 7 p.m. EST. War Child was honored at this year's BRIT Awards with the Special Recognition Award, marking its 20th anniversary in raising awareness and funds to aid war-afflicted children. Other bands that have supported War Child in the past include Iggy Pop, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie and more.
