Rhapsody, Napster Add Chromecast Support

Bruce Houghton/Hypebot

Rhapsody and Napster have added support for Google's Chromecast streaming dongle to their Android apps. Earlier this week, Rdio joined apps from Songza, Pandora, Google Play Music, YouTube and VEVO on Chromecast.

Beats has said they'll support the format soon. Spotify and Deezer have not announced plans.

The good news for music fans and developers is that these additions confirm Google's willingness to include services that directly compete with its own music and streaming offerings; and on Chromecast's apps page competing services get equal billing to Google's own.

Simarlily, Microsoft's XBox 360 hosts a Rhapsody app. On Apple TV, however, iTunes is the only music streaming choice.
