Billy Corgan recruits Tommy Lee to drum on new Smashing Pumpkins album

Looks like Billy Corgan has found a new drummer for Smashing Pumpkins’ upcoming album, Monuments To An Elegy. Though the band’s most recent touring lineup has featured Mike Byrne behind the kit, Corgan recently hit the studio with none other than Tommy Lee. Yes, that Tommy Lee.

According to an update on the band’s website, Lee plays drums on nine songs. “Here’s a shot from the mission out west,” Corgan wrote “Just finished round 1 of tracking drums with Tommy Lee for the new the Smashing Pumpkins album. Shockla-locka-boom.”

Last week, Corgan revealed that he’s nearly finished with Monuments To An Elegy, though it isn’t expected to see light until 2015. He described the albums’ sound by saying, “think: ‘guitars, guitars, guitars, and more guitars;’ but more so on the epic side of things than say, grossly metallic.”

A second album, titled Day For Night, is also due out in 2015.
